The Hanoi Center for Disease Control (HCDC) on Sunday night reported 21 coronavirus infections at a Hai Ba Trung District-based company, which supplies meat to several supermarkets in the Vietnamese capital city.
A quick response team of the HCDC arrived at the cold storage warehouse of Thanh Nga Food Co. Ltd. at 82/651 Minh Khai Street in Hai Ba Trung District at 5:30 pm on Sunday to conduct contact tracing after receiving information about the cluster.
The contact-tracing results showed that the first patient was identified as V.N.A., a 21-year-old resident of Dong Da District, who worked as an intern at Thanh Nga through July 30.
A. visited Xanh Pon Hospital on July 28 for a cough, a fever, and a sore throat and tested positive for the coronavirus.
Another test conducted by the HCDC affirmed A.’s infection on Saturday.
The medical center in Hai Ba Trung District collected samples for COVID-19 testing from A.’s 30 direct contacts, three of whom were later sent to quarantine at Ha Dong General Hospital, while 24 and three others were placed in isolation at the company and home, respectively.
Twenty of the 30 samples returned positive for the virus, the HCDC announced on Sunday.
Following the detection of the cluster, about 300 households, with 1,000 residents, have been placed under lockdown.
Seventeen direct contacts of the infections at Thanh Nga were sampled, with ten of them testing negative and the other seven awaiting results.
The test results of 750 related people and residents in the cluster area are also pending.
In addition to the aforementioned cold storage warehouse, Thanh Nga Food Co. Ltd. has the main office at 12/651 Minh Khai Street, where five other companies are located.
Many of its 43 employees live and work at the warehouse.
The company supplies meat to dozens of convenience stores and large supermarkets in Hanoi.
The HCDC is looking for people in relation to the company from July 14 to Sunday and requested those who visited and performed in-person transactions with this supplier to self-isolate at home and immediately contact local medical stations or call 0969.082.115 or 0949.396.115.
Vietnam had documented 157,507 COVID-19 cases as of Monday morning, with 43,157 recoveries and 1,306 deaths, according to the Ministry of Health.
The country has recorded 153,672 local infections in 62 out of its 63 provinces and cities, including 1,457 cases in Hanoi, since the fourth wave began on April 27.
